(WWJ) It's a reminder of the importance of watching for pedestrians while driving, and using caution while traveling on foot.
A total of five pedestrians, three men and two women, were hit and killed by vehicles in crashes across the metro Detroit area over the weekend, according to authorities.

In the latest incident, Royal Oak Police said an 84-year-old Royal Oak man was hit by a car and killed on 13 Mile Rd., near Campbell Rd., Sunday evening.
A preliminary investigation found that the man was trying to cross from the north to the south side of 13 Mile, outside of the crosswalk, when he was struck. Police said the 19-year old driver who hit the man and a passenger stopped at the crash scene, and were not hurt.
Just a few hours earlier on Sunday, in Southfield, police said a 63-year-old Detroit man was on foot when he was hit and killed near Northwestern Highway and Telegraph Rd. While circumstances are still under investigation, police said drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor in the incident. The driver involved in the crash stopped, police said, and is cooperating with investigators.
Separately, just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday, a pedestrian was killed on the Southfield Freeway. According to Michigan State Police, a preliminary investigation sound that the driver of a disabled car had left his vehicle, along southbound M-39, north of Plymouth Rd., and was struck by another car. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian then caught fire.
The man who was kit was pronounced dead at the scene, MSP said. The person driving the car that hit him wasn't injured, but was taken for a blood draw to determine if alcohol may have been involved.
Meanwhile, in Detroit, police are searching for the driver of an SUV who fled the scene after hitting and killing two women, at around 2 a.m. Saturday.
The victims — one identified by family members of 28-year-old Brittany Jones, a mother of three — were struck by a driver while walking across Schaefer Highway, near Puritan and the John Freeway.
The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark colored Dodge Durango. Anyone who can ID the driver, or who has any other helpful information about the incident should call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800 SPEAK UP.
