Suspect wanted for shooting and killing a woman in Pittsfield Twp found dead in mid-Michigan

PITTSFIELD TWP. (WWJ) The man suspected of shooting and killing a Plymouth woman Thursday was found dead in mid-Michigan Friday evening.

Michael Elinski, 59, was wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in Pittsfield Township. His body was discovered in Clare, Michigan. According to police, it appears he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Pittsfield Township Police said they were called to a suspected shooting on Plaza (3700 block) near Ellsworth and State around 9:10 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found a parked car with multiple bullet holes on the outside. A woman was dead in the vehicle.

She was identified as Andrea Grant, 50, of Plymouth.

“…The case is being investigated as a homicide,” police said in a release. “At this time, there is information to indicate the incident was not random. There is no information that there’s a specific threat to the public.”

Police have not released any more information about the circumstances leading up to the murder or a motive. It’s also unclear if Grant was related to or knew the suspect.
