
WAYNE COUNTY (WWJ) - One man is in stable condition after he pointed a weapon at police, prompting the officers to open fire in northern Wayne County early Saturday morning.
Officials for the Redford Township Police Department said officers were called to reports of a domestic assault involving weapons at a trailer park in Plymouth, between Middlebelt and Telegraph.
When officers arrived at the trailer just before 2:30 a.m., they attempted to make contact with the male suspect and observed him holding a long gun.
According to officials, police exited the property and the male suspected followed, pointing the long gun at officers.
"Redford Township Police Department officers then responded to the threat," officials said in the press release. "Numerous shots were fired by RTPD officers."
The suspect was wounded by gunfire and taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries; he is listed as being in stable condition.
Authorities said no police officers were injured.
The incident is currently pending an investigation by Michigan State Police.
