TAYLOR (WWJ) -- Taylor High School in Taylor was put on lockdown Wednesday as police investigate a threat.
A worried grandfather called WWJ Newsradio 950 Thursday afternoon to report that his granddaughter texted him while hiding under her desk. The teen told him that the lights in the classroom were off, and the door was locked.
In a statement, the Taylor School District said a threatening note found in the school prompted the lockdown, and no injuries have been reported.
"This afternoon, our high school entered into lockdown when we learned of a threatening note found in one of our bathrooms. We have immediately notified the police department and they are working to investigate thoroughly. Law enforcement is working with us to dismiss students in a safe and timely manner. Please be aware, no one will be able to enter the high school until law enforcement has given the all clear. If you do arrive at the high school, please remain in your car in the rear parking lot to give police time to complete their investigation and a calm, safe dismissal will occur as soon as possible."
Just after 2:30 p.m., the school sent an update to parents, stating that "police have been working promptly on their investigation," and that enforcement believed it was safe at that time to begin dismissing students.
Dismissals would take place "in waves," officials said, with areas of the building dismissed one at a time.
As a precaution, the district said all activities scheduled for Thursday night at the high school have been canceled. As the school continues to monitor the situation with law enforcement, officials said more information will be released to students, their parents and staff.
It's still unclear who wrote the note, and officials did not released any information about what the note said.
