(WWJ) – A teen is in custody after crashing a car and fleeing police during an attempted traffic stop in midtown Detroit Saturday night.

Michigan State Police officials say troopers tried to stop a 2009 Dodge Charger for a traffic violation on the I-94 freeway ramp to northbound M-10 just before 10 p.m. Saturday.

MSP officials say the driver tried to flee the traffic stop, but lost control and crashed on the ramp.

Two adults inside the car ran from the scene, while two juvenile occupants stayed in the car.

Authorities say the driver. An 18-year-old from Lincoln Park, later returned to the scene and was arrested, while the other passenger who fled was not caught.

The 18-year-old in custody has not been identified. He is currently being held at the Detroit Detention Center, pending prosecutor review. Possible charges were not clear.

The juveniles inside the car were taken home and released to their father in Lincoln Park.

Authorities have not said why the driver fled the traffic stop or what exactly prompted the stop. It was not clear why the driver and passenger fled on foot.
