(WWJ) A Northern Michigan man is facing drug possession and other charges after he drove off the road and crashed into a tree last weekend.
Ai around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, Michigan State Police said a trooper with the Gaylord Post responded to Wing Road near VFW Road in Inverness Township, southwest of Cheboygan, on a report of a single-car crash.
Police said an initial investigation found that the driver, 37-year-old Phillip Lee Daniels, Jr. of Cheboygan, was driving a BMW sedan northbound on Wing when he crossed the centerline, veered off the roadway to the left and slammed into a tree.
In the car, MSP said the trooper found an unknown powdery substance, an orange square patch suspected of being suboxone, and "drug paraphernalia."
Sobriety tests were administered, and Daniels was arrested at the scene.

Tests later confirmed that the driver had meth in the car, according to MSP.
He was arraigned in 89th District Court in Cheboygan on Monday on one count of Possession Methamphetamine, one count of Possession Analogues, one count Reckless Driving, and one count of Operating While Intoxicated.
Bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety, and Daniels' next court date was set for Jan. 27.
