TROY (WWJ) – A Troy man is awaiting charges after police found him with multiple open cans of White Claw in his car during a traffic stop.

The driver, whose name was not released, also allegedly tried to hide several white pills under his tongue, according to police.

It all unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 10 when officers spotted the 28-year-old speeding in a GMC Terrain on Big Beaver Road near Rochester Road.

When officers went to talk to the Troy man, officers noticed a “strong odor of intoxicants” coming from the SUV. They also spotted multiple open White Claws inside.

Officers then noticed the man had several white pills he was trying to conceal under his tongue. He allegedly refused to spit them out and eventually swallowed them.

Officers found a small Ziplock bag with a white oval pill, later determined to be Xanax, in the center console of the Terrain. The driver admitted the pills he swallowed were also Xanax, according to police.

After performing poorly on several sobriety evaluations, the man refused to submit to a breath test.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up, where he was checked out by medical personnel. The driver eventually submitted to a blood test. Results of the test are pending.

The case has been turned over to the Troy Detective Bureau to determine any charges.
