According to Troy Police, at around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, a call came in about a Ford Fusion that had struck a telephone pole at Houghten Dr. and Square Lake Rd.

The vehicle was reported to have then fled the scene southbound on Houghten Drive.

Police said they found blue car parts at Houghten and Square Lake before they discovered a blue 2010 Ford Fusion with heavy front-end damage in a shallow ditch at McKinley Dr. and Wright Dr. Upon further investigation, officers found a Miller Lite beer can in the center console and footprints in the snow leading to a nearby home.

The Fusion was registered to the same address, police said.

Police went to the house and found a man with watery/bloodshot eyes who smelled strongly like alcohol, according to the police report.

Slurring his speech, the man told officers that he was the only person home, he'd been home and night, and didn't know how his car ended up in a ditch.

The man was arrested and taken to Troy Police Lock-up where police said he initially agreed to take a breath test but ultimately refused to
complete it.

Police got a warrant for a blood draw and the man was charged with Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense, Driving While License Suspended, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Failure to Report an Accident.

No injuries were reported.
