TROY (WWJ) -- A report of a suspicious person in a Troy neighborhood led police to a crash scene, and a drunk man who didn't realize he was at the wrong house.

A 33-year-old Troy man is facing charges in connection with the incident last Tuesday, in the 6600 block of Crabapple Drive.

Just after 2 a.m., officers were called out to a home where residents reported unknown man had come up to their front and back porches, was looking into their windows, and was "trying to show them his phone."

The man then sat down on the residents' on patio furniture.

When police arrived on the scene they found a black Chevy Blazer parked on the street near a broken mailbox and several broken car parts.

That's when the officers spotted the suspect, who was walking out from behind the house.

When questioned by officers about what he was doing, the man allegedly insisted that this was his house, and that he just got home from the bar.

Police noted that the man's eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and there was an odor of alcohol on his breath.

The keys for the damaged Blazer were in the man's pocket, and he allegedly admitted to officers that he'd been driving the vehicle.

After failing a series of field sobriety tests, police said the man refused to take a breathalyzer test and was arrested.

He was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with a result of .25% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) — which is more than three times the legal limit to drive in Michigan.

The driver was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated and PBT Refusal, police said. His name was not immediately released.
