(WWJ) – A 52-year-old Rochester Hills man is facing charges after what started as a reported assault on I-75 led to police discovering he was driving drunk.
Troy police officers were called to the area of I-75 and Crooks Road around 6:15 p.m. last Thursday after getting reports of a felonious assault on the freeway.
The caller told police that a man driving a Ford F-150 had pointed a gun at him while traveling north on I-75 near 12 Mile Road.
Officers were eventually able to pull the truck over on the Crooks off-ramp. When they spoke with the man, he told officers he didn’t have any weapons in the truck.
While they were speaking to him, officers noticed his eyes were bloodshot and glassy and there was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
He performed poorly on several sobriety evaluations and after refusing to take a preliminary breath test, he was taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility.
A chemical breath test came back with results of .16% and .16%.
Authorities never found a gun inside the F-150. The driver, whose name was not released, was issued a citation for operating while intoxicated and refusing a preliminary breath test.
