VASSAR (WWJ) – Two tornadoes with winds of up to 80 mph touched down in Michigan’s Thumb region Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed on Tuesday afternoon.

NWS officials said one twister touched down just before 2 p.m. northeast of Vassar in Tuscola County. The EF-0 tornado had winds of up to 80 mph.

The tornado uprooted numerous trees, including sheared trees and limbs. The tornado’s path was about 2.3 miles long and 200 yards wide, officials said.

About 15 minutes later, the other EF-0 tornado, which had winds of up to 75 mph, struck near the intersection of M-24 and State Route 46.

It was more brief, as it was on the ground for only about two minutes and covered about a half mile, at 100 yards wide.

There were no injuries reported from either tornado, which were spawned from the same thunderstorm system.
