UAW reissues mask requirement for workers at Ford, General Motors, Stellantis facilities

(WWJ) -- The United Auto Workers has announced that workers will once again be required to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status.

The mandate goes into effect on Wednesday, August 4 for all personnel at Ford, General Motors and Stellantis plants, offices and warehouses.

In an official statement, the UAW confirmed the decision, saying it was made in response to the CDC’s recent updated guidelines on COVID-19 workplace standards, related to the delta variant.

“The Task Force met and, after reviewing the recently changed CDC guidelines and community COVID-19 trends, decided it is best for worker safety to resume wearing masks in all worksites,” the statement said. “While we know that masks can be uncomfortable, the spread of the Delta variant and recent data outlining the alarmingly high rate of transmission among those unvaccinated is a serious health threat.”

The UAW also said they are continuing to encourage all workers and their family members to get vaccinated.
