(WWJ) Crime Stoppers of Michigan is hoping that good-sized cash reward will help bring justice in a months-old murder case.

Averil May — a 63-year-old grandfather of four — was gunned down on Saturday, September 20, 2020, on Detroit’s west side.

According to investigators, May was parking his black Oldsmobile Aurora across the street from his home in the 8500 block of Stawell, at around 12:30 a.m., when an unknown suspect fired shots, striking him.

May was then found dead behind the wheel of his car.

There is no description of the suspect or a suspect vehicle, and police have little to go on at this point.

Crime Stoppers says May was a master mechanic who worked for General Motors, and also as a sound engineer for bands.

Now his family is once again pleading with the community to come forward with any information that could bring their loved one's killer to justice.

“Please come up and tell us what’s up," May's youngest daughter, Juanita May said at a Crime Stoppers news conference last month.

"He really didn’t have any enemies,” she said. “He was really loved.”

The reward fund in this case has since been increased to up to $7,500 for the tip that leads to an arrest.

Anyone who has any information about this crime is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-Speak Up (1-800-773-2587), or submit a tip online at this link.

Remember: All those who call Crime Stoppers will remain 100% anonymous, and will not be required to speak to police, or to testify in court. Crime Stoppers does not wait for a conviction in a case, but pays out reward money when an arrest is made.
