DETROIT (WWJ) – Detroit police are searching for a man caught on video throwing a Molotov cocktail into a gas station on the city’s west side.
Authorities say it happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday, April 29 at a Mobil station in the area of 7 Mile and Meyers.
Surveillance video shows the man walking up to the location with a Molotov cocktail in his hand, opening the door and throwing it into the building.
As the suspect fled south on Meyers, authorities say a victim inside the location had their clothes catch on fire and fled the scene.
There was minimal damage to the building, police officials said. Authorities have not revealed a possible motive in the incident.
Police released video of the incident, showing the suspect with what appears to be a blue towel on their head.
Authorities are offering a $500 reward for tips in the case. Anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the arson is asked to visit Detroit Rewards TV or call the Detroit Police Department’s Arson Unit at 313-596-2940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
All tipsters will remain anonymous.
