DETROIT (WWJ) – For nearly a century, the Boblo Boats were the gateway to a day of fun at the amusement park, but over time, the S.S. Columbia and S.S. Ste. Claire became as popular as Boblo Island itself.

Restoration efforts are underway on the S.S. Ste. Claire, which sits across in the Detroit River across from Belle Isle, with one Detroit family "going through leaps and bounds to make sure it always has a place in Detroit."

On a new Daily J, WWJ’s Zach Clark took a walk through the historic vessel, a place where Detroit’s past and future meet, to get a look into what the future holds for the beloved Boblo Boat.

Earlier this month he took a trip back in time to find out why the Boblo Boats were so beloved by Detroiters.
