WARREN (WWJ) -- A Macomb County prosecutor is saying the man who allegedly struck and killed a bicyclist earlier this week fled the scene and bought booze instead of turning himself in.
According to the Macomb Daily, 32-year-old Christopher Gellisch is facing a felony count of fleeing the scene of a deadly crash following the anonymous tip that led police to his Warren home -- where his black Dodge Ram was parked with front-end damage.
Police say Gellisch then confessed to being the hit-and-run driver.
The prosecuting attorney, Jeremy Fisher, said during a search of Gellisch's truck, booze bottles were allegedly discovered inside.
Macomb Daily reports that Fisher said, “He sees it on the news, but doesn’t reach out to anyone or turn himself in -- instead, he goes to the liquor store to get more liquor. That is his response after finding out there was a death accident that he was involved in.”
Fisher said Gellisch was behind the wheel Tuesday at around 5 a.m. when he struck 47-year-old Matthew Zaleski, of Madison Heights, while he was riding in his bike in the right lane of 13 Mile Road near Mound.
His bond is set at $75,000 cash surety. He will need to wear a tether if he posts bond. Gellisch will be back in court on July 26.
