DETROIT (WWJ) – A 20-year-old Warren woman is facing multiple charges for allegedly hitting a woman and man with her car as they were crossing the street in Detroit.

The crash, which happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday on the city’s east side, killed 43-year-old Lorena Washington and left a 61-year-old man seriously injured.

Shacuria Latrice Nicholson is facing five charges, including causing death while driving with a suspended license and minor operating with any blood alcohol content. She was arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 36th District Court and given a $500,000 personal bond.

Officials say Nicholson was driving westbound on Mack Avenue approaching Field Street – near E. Grand Boulevard – when she hit the victims as they were crossing the street.

Medics took both victims to the hospital. Washington died later the same day. The man’s condition on Tuesday was not known.

Nicholson was also charged with one count of causing serious injury while driving with a suspended license, one count of moving violation causing death and one count of moving violation causing serious impairment.

Authorities did not disclose Nicholson’s BAC at the time of the crash. Officials did not say whether she stopped at the scene of the crash.

Nicholson will be back in court for a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for Sept. 7.
