(WWJ) A Plymouth Township man is hospitalized, but expected to survive thanks to the heroic actions of a Michigan State Police trooper.

MSP says Trooper Daniel Drewyor with the Brighton Post was on patrol Tuesday morning, on Ann Arbor Rd. over I-275 in Wayne County, when he came upon the scene of a serious crash.

Drewyor found that a 56-year-old driver was trapped in his burning vehicle, and he acted quickly -- pulling the man from the car before it was fully engulfed, according to police.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. Police said he had his 5-year-old grandson with him, but the child received only minor injuries.

Sharing dash cam video of the rescue, MSP wrote: "Nice job Trooper Drewyor!"

State Police said the cause of the crash was traveling too fast for icy road conditions.

Ann Arbor Rd. was closed at the scene all day, but reopened shortly after 5 p.m..
