WESTLAND (WWJ) -- A staff member at a Wayne County psychiatric facility is hospitalized after a patient stabbed him Tuesday.
At approximately 1:55 p.m., authorities were contacted about a possible stabbing at Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital in Westland.
According to the preliminary investigation, a patient in the hospital retrieved a metal piece from the drop ceiling in his room and hid the object in his waist band until he approached a staff member in the hallway.
The patient proceeded to stab the male staff member in the neck and shoulder area.

The suspect was restrained by other patients and staff while the wounded staff member was admitted to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
This incident is pending further investigation.
