MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WWJ) – A major portion of I-75 will be closed this weekend as work continues on the I-75 modernization project.
Weather permitting, the freeway will be closed in both directions between I-696 and I-75 Business Loop (Square Lake Road) beginning Friday night.
Crews will be working to complete the demolition of the overpasses at Gardenia and Lincoln Avenues, while 13 Mile Road will also be closed for bridge demolition.
The closure is expected to have an impact on traffic heading to Autorama at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit, WWJ Traffic reporter KT says.
Here’s what you need to know about the construction this weekend:
• The freeway will be closed beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, March 4 and will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday.
• Crews will begin closing ramps at 9 p.m. and start lane closures at 10 p.m. on Friday.
• All ramps to northbound I-75 will be closed between I-696 and 14 Mile Road, while all ramps on the southbound side will be closed from M-59 to 11 Mile Road.
• 13 Mile Road will close between Stephenson Highway and Agnello Drive to allow crews to safely remove the bridge that carries northbound I-75 over 13 Mile Road. A detour will be posted.
Detours
• Northbound I-75 traffic will be detoured west on I-696 to NB M-1 (Woodward Avenue), then re-enter the freeway at Square Lake. Entrance ramps to NB I-75 will remain open from 14 Mile to Crooks for local traffic.
• Southbound I-75 traffic will use westbound Square Lake to southbound Woodward, then EB I-696 back to I-75.
Long-term ramp closures
The following ramps will remain closed through mid-November:
• EB I-696 to NB I-75
• WB I-696 to NB I-75
• 11 Mile Road to and from NB I-75
