LANSING, Mich. (WWJ) – Michigan’s State of the State address will be virtual for a second year in a row, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and State House Speaker Jason Wentworth announced Monday the address will be broadcast live throughout the state on Wednesday, Jan. 26.

Officials have agreed the address should once again be held remotely “to ensure everyone can safely partake in this time-honored event.”

In a joint statement, Whitmer and Wentworth called the State of the State “a tradition rooted in history.”

“It is an opportunity for Michiganders to hear about the work of state government and see Republicans and Democrats come together to focus on the issues that will put Michigan families, communities, and small businesses first,” the statement said.
