With hits dating back eight decades, music legend Paul Anka is coming to Metro Detroit

WARREN (WWJ) – Only one musical artist in history has had hits on the Billboard charts in seven consecutive decades, and he’s coming to Metro Detroit next month.

Paul Anka, best known for hits like “Diana,” “Lonely Boy” and “Put Your Head On My Shoulder,” will perform at the Andiamo Celebrity Showroom in Warren on Oct. 22.

Speaking with WWJ’s Erin Vee, he said his record of seven consecutive decades on the Billboard charts – spanning from the 1950s to the 2010s – was extended another decade when Olivia Newton John’s recording of “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” in 2021.

Anka, who has sold over 100 million albums, said it’s “always been kind of a love fest” every time he comes to the Detroit area because the fans in Detroit and across the river in Windsor are great.

Anka said the second city he ever performed in was Detroit.

"I was always in and out of Detroit with my hits, and I'll be doing all of those hits from '56 on," he said.

In the interview Anka, 81, reminisced on his long career, which dates back to when he was just 14 years old, and all the memorable experiences he’s had traveling the world. He even capped off their interview by singing Happy Birthday” to Erin Vee.
