8 Mile Road closed in Southfield after woman fatally struck by car in crosswalk

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- A woman who was trying to cross 8 Mile Road early Tuesday morning was hit and killed.

Southfield Police say the 60-year-old woman was in the crosswalk at the intersection of 8 Mile and Lahser when she was struck by a vehicle.

Witnesses stopped and tried to help the victim, but she later died from her injuries at the hospital.

The driver involved stopped and was questioned by police. Investigators say it appears the driver had a green light.

8 Mile was temporarily shut down following the fatal accident, but the road has since reopened to traffic.
