GARDEN CITY (WWJ) – A Metro Detroit woman is in the hospital after slamming into an oncoming car in Garden City on Tuesday.

Garden City police officials tell WWJ it all unfolded shortly before noon when a woman was headed north on Merriman Road near the intersection of Alvin Road.

The woman crossed the median line and collided with a vehicle that was headed in the other direction.

The other driver was not injured, according to Garden City police. Authorities did not say what type of vehicle either driver was driving at the time of the crash.

Police did not release the age, name or hometown of the woman who was injured, but said she was hospitalized in “critical but stable” condition.

The crash left Merriman closed for more than two hours, but it has since reopened.

Police are still not sure what caused the crash and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows something about it to call the Garden City Police Department’s non-emergency line at 734-793-1700.
