(WWJ) Oakland County authorities are searching for suspects after a woman was hit by a bullet that came through her bathroom wall.

It happened Wednesday night, at an apartment building in the 600 block of Palmer Dr., near Bay St. and University, in Pontiac.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a 31-year-old Pontiac woman reported that she was sitting on the toilet in a second-floor bathroom, just before 10 p.m., when she heard a loud noise.

The woman then realized that she'd been shot in the thigh.

OCSO investigators found that a bullet had penetrated the building’s second floor exterior wall, and then continued through the bathroom wall. Deputies also found a spent rifle bullet at the top of the second-floor landing, which was just outside of the bathroom and where the victim’s son had been standing.

Fortunately, the 6-year-old boy was not injured.

Two rifle shell casings were also discovered in the roadway just behind the apartment building, investigators said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was listed in stable condition. Officials said her wound was not believed to be life-threatening.

At this time, it is not known who fired the shots, or who was the intended target. No suspects have been named or described.

The investigation is ongoing.
