
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Police in Detroit are investigating after finding about 30 shell casings at the scene of a drive-by shooting that left a young girl in the hospital Saturday night.
Authorities say a 10-year-old girl was struck by gunfire in the shooting around 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of Evanston Street and Somerset Avenue -- just north of I-94 on the city’s east side.
The girl was sitting in her family’s car when another vehicle pulled up next to the and began firing shots, according to a report from WDIV.
The girl was being treated at the hospital and was last said to be in critical condition Saturday night.

It was not clear whether anyone else was injured in the shooting.
Police are not sure what led up to the shooting and are still investigating whether the family’s vehicle was the intended target of the shooting.
Authorities reportedly recovered about 30 shell casings from the scene of the crime.
Police have not released any information about a possible suspect or suspects, but they were reportedly driving a dark burgundy, four-door Cadillac.
