A Kentucky prom after-party turned violent on Sunday morning when a fight broke out, resulting in four people between the ages of 14 and 20 being shot.

The after-party took place in Paducah, Kentucky, and authorities shared that Paducah Tilghman High School and other area students were in attendance when the shooting broke out.

In a letter to families obtained by the Lexington Herald, Paducah Tilghman Principal Allison Stief shared that none of the wounds caused by the shooting were life-threatening.

“We know that our students who were at the party may be traumatized and in need of our support following this act of violence,” Stieg said in her letter.

The Paducah Police Department responded to the shooting, which took place at a local community center in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers reported that they were told a disturbance had broken out between attendees of the party, leading to multiple gunshots being fired in the parking lot.

The shooting was allegedly between two suspects, and as a result, a 20-year-old male, an 18-year-old female, a 14-year-old female, and a 17-year-old male were injured, police said.

Stieg shared that the school would be offering support to students in need following this weekend’s events.

“We have a talented team of guidance counselors, social workers, school-based therapists, and others who are readily available. We also plan to have counselors available throughout the day on Monday to talk with students who need help,” Stieg said.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
