As many Americans prepare to celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, a large number of them will also have to prepare for inclement, possibly severe weather.
An area stretching through the American heartland, from Colorado to South Carolina, is cautioned to prepare for dark skies, a swath that includes about 45 million residents.
Those who live between Oklahoma and Kansas are under the most severe threat.
“Be prepared for hail the size of baseballs and winds exceeding 80 mph with strong storms, as well as a medium risk of tornadoes,” reads a warning from the Storm Prediction Center, who said, on a scale of 1-5, the weekend’s threat level is at a “4.”
A separate, and even larger, patch of severe weather will stretch from western Kansas to southern Texas and reach all the way to the eastern Florida panhandle.
Conditions are expected to last all weekend long.
