(WWJ) One person has been killed and another injured in a crash along a slick road in Macomb County.
Chesterfield Township Public Safety Director Brad Kersten said it happened Tuesday, as snow was coming down on New Haven Rd. between I-94 and 26 Mile Rd. in Chesterfield Township
"The driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck lost control of his vehicle while traveling southbound on New Haven Road, and spun out in front of a utility vehicle heading northbound," he told WWJ's Sandra McNeill.
The pickup driver died, while the second driver involved was hospitalized.
New Haven Rd. was closed for about four hours following the crash, but has since reopened to traffic.
Kersten said slippery roads are being blamed for about a dozen traffic incidents within the township Tuesday morning.
"We police an area along I-94," he said. "So there were numerous vehicles on the freeway that had spun out. Really, they weren't crashes, just spun out, and tow trucks got them back out on the road.
Kersten said, as always, weather conditions "need to dictate how you drive."
"You need to increase your time, distance, and your stopping abilities," Kersten sad. "Rain, snow affect those capabilities of your vehicle. You need to use caution, slow down."
While slick roads are a suspected factor in the fatal crash, Kersten said the cause is still under investigation.
The victim's name was not immediately released.
