With one son Hall of Fame-bound and a grandson making waves as a top flight high school recruit, New Orleans Saints legend Archie Manning continues to preside over one of football’s most charmed gene-pools.
Manning appeared on WWL Radio Friday night to discuss son Peyton’s election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
“We were excited. He got the news a few weeks ago when they surprised him out in Denver,” Manning said.
“It kind of makes you reflect and go back and think about when he started with football, his passion for football as a youngster. He’s been very blessed through the years with pretty good health. Had a lot of good coaches, a lot of great teammates, and had a good journey. So we’re very proud.”
As for the next generation of Manning football, the family patriarch discussed his grandson Arch, quarterback for the Isidore Newman Greenies.
The elder Archie said his grandson’s team ran into a well-coached squad in this year’s high school semifinals, but there’s still so much ahead in the next two years of high school ball.
“Looking forward to next year. He’s itching to get back to working out, and hopefully they can do something good. They’ve got some good players coming back.”
