LSU’s football team brought in a strong 2021 recruiting class and Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron is expecting several of those players to contribute this season.

He told WWL Radio’s Sports Talk that one area he expects to see the incoming freshmen make an impact is at safety.

“I can see one freshman possibly starting, two possibly in the rotation,” he told host Kristian Garic.

LSU signed two of the top safeties in the 2021 class in Lafayette Christian’s Sage Ryan and Derrick Davis Jr. who’s already on campus.

“I’m really impressed with Derrick Davis,” Orgeron said. “Derrick Davis is a mid-year graduate from Pittsburgh, Pa. Great athlete. Could probably play tailback… he looks like Jamal Adams. That type of young man. Great character.”

Orgeron also expected several veterans like Todd Harris Cam Lewis to play a big role in the secondary this season.
