For the third time in his career Demario Davis is about to become a New York Jet.
The longtime Saints team leader has reached a three-year deal with the Jets, according to multiple reports shortly after the start of the NFL's legal tampering period. Deals can not become official until the start of the new league year on March 11.
The news brings an end to what was an incredibly successful 8-year stint with the Saints after they signed him as a free agent before the 2018 season. Davis was originally a 3rd-round pick of the Jets in 2012 and also signed with them in free agency in 2017. His new head coach will be Aaron Glenn, who was an assistant in New Orleans alongside Davis for three seasons.
Davis, 37, has continued to post impressive statistical totals well into his 30s, setting new career highs in tackles (136 and 143) in each of the past two seasons.
The Saints are also expected to see veteran Cam Jordan hit the free agent market for the first time in his 15-year career, though it is unclear what kind of market he will have. The Saints lone move in the early free agent window was to ink DT John Ridgeway to a 2-year extension, according to reports.
