LSU's star cornerback appeared in line to get a long-awaited run at wide receiver this offseason, but a "nagging" injury appears to have ended that Tigers sideplot before it ever even got started.

Speaking Thursday on SportsTalk with Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic, LSU head coach Ed Orgeron reaffirmed that Stingley isn't expected to miss any game action, but it's unlikely he'll be worked in for reps at wide receiver as the team had planned.

"[It's] nothing that will stop him from playing but something that if he practices we could hurt it a little bit more," Orgeron said, "so wanted to give him a little time off."

Orgeron didn't specify the nature of Stingley's injury, but did say there was concern he could re-aggravate it without allowing time to heal. LSU's coach said his junior cornerback is "definitely" going to play against UCLA on Sept. 4, and it's just one of a handful of camp injuries the team is dealing with. Other than Glen Logan's broken foot, none are believed to be serious or anything that will cause players to miss the start of the season.

"I’m gonna tell you what, when we start game planning against UCLA those lines are going to be full and everybody’s going to be on the bus to play, I promise you," Orgeron said.

OFFENSIVE LINE THE 'MOST IMPROVED' GROUP ON TEAM

“I’ve got to give credit to Brad Davis. Probably the most improved group. We had some problem blocking our defensive line … and some protection in the first scrimmage. But boy, they’ve made some progress this week. He’s gotten them better in the run game. We had a big 9-on-7 period yesterday, they gashed the defense.

"They’ve gotten better, and you can see he’s making his mark with the offensive line. Still got a ways to go. We’ve got a couple of guys banged up, but I’ll tell you what, he doesn’t blink and he’s getting the most out of our guys.”

PASS-RUSH 'THE BEST' HE'S HAD, WITH ONE 'UNBLOCKABLE' PLAYER

“This is the best four-man rush we’ve had. … Ali Gaye, the guy is unblockable right now. He’s having a great fall. He’s doing a lot of great things. I’m very proud. He’s coming back from an injury but he’s healthy.”

Orgeron named Andre Anthony, BJ Ojulari and Zavier Carter as the standouts, the latter of whom he likened to former Tigers standout and current San Francisco 49erss defensive end Arden Key.
