LSU's College World Series heroes continue to head all over the nation to join their new pro teams, the latest being veteran infielder Gavin Dugas, who was picked by the Nationals in the 6th round of the MLB draft.
The Houma native was the No. 165 overall selection and will join LSU teammate Dylan Crews, who was selected No. 2 overall by Washington.
Dugas was a key piece of the Tigers' title-winning offense in his 5th year with the program, batting .290 with 12 home runs, two triples, 17 homers, 46 RBI and 74 runs, all while starting 66 games at second base. Dugas also led the nation with a school record 33 hit-by-pitches.
The veteran infielder was another member of the CWS All-Tournament team, batting .308 with two doubles, two home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored in Omaha.
Dugas was the sixth LSU player picked, along with Crews, Paul Skenes (No. 1 to Pirates); Ty Floyd (No. 38 to Reds); Grant Taylor (No. 51 to White Sox); and Tre' Morgan (No. 88 to Rays). LSU has a handful of additional players who could be drafted, including Cade Beloso and Jordan Thompson. The current LSU record for players picked in a single MLB draft is nine, which occurred in 2013.
