The LSU women finished off a record-tying regular season with a record of 27-1 (15-1 SEC), but that's only step 1.
Just ask Kim Mulkey.
"We have not arrived," Mulkey said on SportsTalk with Mike Detillier and Bobby Hebert. "People are going crazy right now. If you haven’t been to a game, it’s a show and It’s awesome. But guys, we have not arrived. It’s my second year. We have not won a championship yet.

"We have won games. We are competing now and we are heading in the right direction ahead of schedule, but we haven't arrived yet. The fans are doing their part, the season-ticket holders, the administration has given us everything we need. We’re just a recruiting cycle, a player or two away from really, really competing for championships.”
It's a long quote, but it's something the Tigers head coach has made clear throughout an ascendant Year 2 since returning to Louisiana from the powerhouse she built at Baylor.
The next step is a run through the SEC Tournament, which began Wednesday. LSU opens up its tournament run as the 2 seed and will face either Texas A&M (13) or Mississippi State (5) at 6 p.m. on the SEC Network.

On potentially landing as a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament
The Tigers might have only lost one game all season, but it appears not to be enough barring an upset of South Carolina in the championship game. It appears that's because of the Tigers' admittedly soft non-conference schedule, or at least that's what it appears like it will be when the committee convenes to set the bracket later this month.
“But that’s OK. If we stay as the first No. 2 seed, you’re still going to be paired with the 4th No. 1 seed and you’re going to have to play each other," Mulkey said. "I’ve won national championships when we were the 2 seed. I’ve won them when we were the favorite and the 1 seed. The bottom line is, this time of year you’re just to have to play great and it doesn’t matter. You’re going to have to beat good teams to win it all and even to get to a Final Four.”
ON SUPPORT AT THE PMAC
“That tells you how passionate folks are when you can support a winner in Louisiana. We are way ahead of schedule," Mulkey said. "The electricity in that building Sunday, and we’ve just won games, guys. We haven’t won championships yet, but, if people will come and support what we’re doing now there’ll come a day when we do win championships, and I can’t imagine it getting any better than it is right now.”
