The Brian Kelly era didn't get off to a roaring start, but it's the leader of the pack now in the SEC West after an upset of Alabama.
The Tigers already had earned some top 10 love in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, and now that's reflected in the Associated Press Top 25. LSU climbed from No. 15 to No. 7.
The result marks the highest ranking for LSU since coming in at No. 6 in the 2020 preseason, a ranking earned more by the previous roster, which went unbeaten en route to a national championship.

With the loss Alabama fell to No. 10, its fist time lower than No. 6 since the 2019.
LSU's path to the College Football Playoff is now more real than ever, now sitting in the catbird seat to potentially represent the SEC west in the title game. They can clinch that spot as early as this week with the right combination of results. If they were to get to the SEC title game and win it, it's LSU would become the first 2-loss team to ever make the CFP semifinals.
Georgia continues to hold the top spot in the rankings, with Tennessee dropping to No. 5 after a loss to the Bulldogs.
The surprise of the year for Louisiana continued its rise, with the Tulane Green Wave climbing to No. 16 after a win over Tulsa. It's Tulane's highest ranking in the AP poll since 1998.
