Dell Demps is no longer the GM of the Pelicans, but he now has another bitter memory to contend with on a New Orleans basketball court: A torn patellar tendon.
Demps, now an assistant coach for the Jazz, suffered the injury while working with his team during warmups Friday before a matchup with his former Pelicans squad.

The 52-year-old was the in charge of the Pelicans' front office from 2010-'19, a chief architect of many of the teams surrounding star Anthony Davis. Demps' run as the GM ended shortly after the star center requested a trade, with current Executive Vice President David Griffin taking over shortly thereafter, and Trajan Langdon being appointed as GM.
Demps has been an assistant coach with the Jazz each of the past two seasons, a team that sits in the No. 4 spot of the Western Conference standings with a record of 39-22. Utah is in New Orleans for a matchup with a surging Pelicans squad that has won its last three games in convincing fashion and is now in sole possession of the 10th and final play-in seed with a record of 25-37, a sharp turnaround from a 3-16 start to the season.
