The Saints are heading into yet another important NFC South clash in Week 2, but the status of their star running back is very much in doubt.
Alvin Kamara is nursing a rib injury suffered during the Week 1 victory over the Bucs, and after a limited day of work Wednesday, he was held out completely on Thursday.
There were 11 players listed in total, though only Kamara and cornerback Paulson Adebo were held out of the action fully.
Here's how the Thursday injury report broke down, along with their prior status (LP = limited; DNP = did not participate; FP = full participation)
- DE Cameron Jordan (hip): LP | LP
- RB Alvin Kamara (rib): LP | DNP
- S Marcus Maye (ankle): LP | FP
- WR Tre'Quan Smith (shoulder): LP | LP
- RB Dwayne Washington (hamstring): LP | LP
- QB Jameis Winston (back): LP | LP
- OT Landon Young (hip): LP | LP
- RB Mark Ingram (ankle): LP | LP
- G Calvin Throckmorton (illness): LP | FP
- CB Alontae Taylor (hip): LP | LP
- CB Paulson Adebo (ankle): DNP | DNP
As can can be seen above, only three players saw their statuses change on Thursday, with Marcus Maye and Calvin Throckmorton getting back into full practice. That's bad news for Adebo who has been out for several weeks with an ankle injury suffered prior to the preseason finale against the Chargers. It's possible he could return to practice on Sunday, but his status for Week 2 is highly in doubt.
The Bucs' side of the health equation is no prettier, with 10 players listed on the injury report and only one returning to full practice in QB Tom Brady (who was out for rest). Here's the full list:
- WR Mike Evans (calf): LP | DNP
- RB Leonard Fournette (hamstring): LP | LP
- WR Breshad Perriman (knee): LP | LP
- LT Tristan Wirfs (abdomen): LP | LP
- QB Tom Brady (rest): DNP | FP
- WR Russell Gage (hamstring): DNP | LP
- WR Chris Godwin (hamstring): DNP | DNP
- WR Julio Jones (knee): DNP | DNP
- CB Zyon McCollum (hamstring): DNP | LP
- OT Donovan Smith (elbow): DNP | DNP
The concern on the Bucs' side will be at the WR position, with four of their top options listed on the Week 2 injury report. Mike Evans did not practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday, but Russell Gage did return to limited practice after missing Wednesday's session.
The final injury report of the week will be issued Friday afternoon along with gameday designations that will provide a clearer picture of who to expect in action at the Caesars Superdome this weekend.
