Instead of a homecoming for Foster Moreau in the 2023 NFL season, he'll be battling cancer.

It was the startling revelation that was handed to Foster Moreau earlier this month as he underwent a physical by the Saints medical staff. The former LSU tight end and New Orleans native was on a free agent visit to potentially sign with the Saints after four seasons with the Raiders.

Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which he announced in a Twitter thread on Wednesday. He said he would be stepping away from football as he battled the disease.

"I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer," Moreau posted to social media. "I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance. That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s ass and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!"

Moreau would've been an interesting potential addition for the Saints, who recently signed his former quarterback, Derek Carr. In Moreau's four seasons with the Raiders, he appeared in 61 games, starting 34, with 91 catches for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The 25-year-old starred at Jesuit before playing at LSU from 2015-'18, before being selected in the 4th round of the 2019 draft.
