The worst kept secret in New Orleans sports is now official: Klint Kubiak is the next Saints offensive coordinator.

The team announced Wednesday afternoon the hire of the 36-year-old as the leader of the team's offense, marking the biggest shift for that group since Sean Payton's arrival in 2006. Pete Carmichael had led the Saints offense the last two seasons, but he was let go following a 9-8 campaign and how now rejoined Payton in Denver.

"Klint has done an excellent job in a variety of roles in ten years in the NFL and has valuable play-calling experience," head coach Dennis Allen said in a news release. "He has played an important role in the growth of many players throughout his career, starting with the quarterback position. I look forward to us getting to work as we form our offensive staff and to see Klint lead that group, play a pivotal role in the development of our players on offense and maximize our strengths on offense."

Kubiak was identified as the likely candidate several weeks prior to the announcement, but due to league rules the deal could not be official until after the Super Bowl. Kubiak served as the passing game specialist for the 49ers in the 2023 season, which ended in an overtime loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

New Orleans will be Kubiak's fourth team in as many years, also serving as the QBs coach for the Broncos in the 2022 season and as the Vikings OC on Mike Zimmer's staff in the 2021 season.

Along with Kubiak the Saints will have to fill several other positions after saying goodbye to several assistants, including QB coach Ronald Curry, WR coach Kodi Burns, RB coach Joel Thomas and OL coach Doug Marrone. The Saints are expected to hire Andrew Janocko, who was Kubiak's QB coach in Minnesota, John Benton as OL coach, and Derrick Foster as RBs coach, according to reports.
