All LSU could do is win and then watch, but they got exactly what they wanted: The Tigers are the SEC West champions, they can celebrate early.
With a 13-10 victory over Arkansas, the Tigers simply needed an Alabama victory over Ole Miss to ensure they couldn't be passed in the SEC West. That's exactly what happened, with the Crimson Tide taking its first lead of the game midway through the 4th quarter en route to a 30-24 victory over Ole Miss. Even if LSU lost to Texas A&M, they'd remain above both Alabama and Ole Miss with the tiebreakers.
That means the Tigers (and fans) can book their flights for the SEC Championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, their first visit since an undefeated season in 2019. This year's game will be played on Saturday, Dec. 3.

LSU had control of its own destiny regardless and nothing really changes for the Tigers. Even with a guaranteed trip to Atlanta, the Tigers still need to win both of their remaining games (UAB and Texas A&M) to ensure they get there with College Football Playoff ambitions still intact. No 2-loss team has yet made the CFP field, but it feels likely that an SEC title would get the Tigers there.
LSU will almost certainly face Georgia, the reigning CFP champions who have looked unbeatable to this point in the season, easily handling the same Tennessee squad that blew out the Tigers in Baton Rouge earlier this season.
UPDATED SEC WEST STANDINGS
- LSU: 8-2, 6-1 SEC
- Alabama: 8-2, 5-2 SEC
- Ole Miss: 8-2, 4-2 SEC
- Mississippi State: 6-3, 3-3 SEC
- Arkansas: 5-5, 2-4 SEC
It will be the 7th time LSU has gone to the SEC title game. The Tigers have gone 5-1 in those appearances.
Regardless of how that game goes, the Tigers have guaranteed themselves and extra SEC game for all the marbles. The only question is how many wins LSU has when it gets there.
