The New Orleans Saints met with former Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman at the Reese’s Senior Bowl this week, according to a report from the Canal Street Chronicles' Ross Jackson.
Newman is one of two QBs the Saints have reportedly met with at the event which features some of the top 2021 NFL Draft prospects. New Orleans also reportedly met with former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
The Saints could potentially be looking for a quarterback in this year’s draft as New Orleans currently only has Taysom Hill committed to return for the 2021 season. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston is set to become a free agent, although Saints coach Sean Payton has said the team wants to bring him back, and starter Drew Brees is reportedly expected to retire.
Newman spent three seasons at Wake Forest before transferring to Georgia for his senior season, he however opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 6-foot-4, 230-pound, North Carolina native was impressive in his junior season throwing for 2,868 yards and rushing for 574 while accounting for 32 total touchdowns.
