UPDATE: The Saints' preseason finale against the Cardinals has now been canceled as the Gulf Coast braces for the impact of Hurricane Ida.

The team had previously announced the game would be moved from 7 p.m. to noon.

The team announced it had made the decision "due to intensification of the hurricane throughout the day." The team says it had been in contact with state, local and NFL officials throughout the day before ultimately canceling the game. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards had also directly requested the game be called off, according to a team statement.

"The team encourages all residents of the region to take precautionary measures to remain safe throughout the impending hurricane," the team said, adding that it will be in contact with season ticket holders regarding refunds and credits.

With Hurricane Ida set to impact the Gulf Coast, the New Orleans Saints have announced they will be moving the start time of Saturday's preseason finale to noon.

The game against the Arizona Cardinals at the Caesars Superdome was previously set for a night kickoff. The time change is to ensure the team can make "proper and safe preparations regarding the potential landfall," according to a team statement.

The storm is tracking toward the Gulf Coast, and as of Friday was projected to strengthen into a major hurricane and make landfall in Louisiana at some point overnight into Monday morning.

The team announced Thursday that it was monitoring the storm and would react as necessary based on feedback city, emergency and weather officials.
