Another key piece of the New Orleans Saints' rebuilt offensive staff appears to be in place.
The Saints are expected to hire former Ravens assistant Keith Williams as its new WRs coach, according to a report from NewOrleans.football.
Williams is the latest addition to the staff of new OC Klint Kubiak, which is also expected to include QBs coach Andrew Janocko, OL coach John Benton and Rick Dennison all headed to New Orleans as run game coordinator. The Saints are also expected to retain Clancy Barone as TE coach.
Williams will be asked to lead a young WR group headlined by Chris Olave, who has had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons since the Saints drafted him No. 11 overall in 2022. The room also includes intriguing young talent in Rashid Shaheed and A.T. Perry, both of whom became big-play threats this past season and combined for nine touchdown receptions.
The Saints also must make a decision on Michael Thomas' contract, though signs are pointing to a split between the team and veteran WR.
Williams has spent the past three seasons on the Ravens' coaching staff, beginning as passing game specialist before becoming assistant WRs coach in 2023. Williams helped Ravens first-round rookie Zay Flowers set franchise records in catches (77) and yards (858).
Williams also has ties to New Orleans, having served as WRs coach for Tulane from 2012-'14. Another important link comes with Fresno State, where he crossed over with current Saints starting QB Derek Carr.
The Saints moved on from eight offensive coaches this offseason, marking their biggest overhaul on that side of the ball since Sean Payton took over in 2006. Pete Carmichael was the first domino after spending the past two seasons as the play-calling offensive coordinator to largely middling results. The Saints also moved on from RB coach Joel Thomas, WR coach Kodi Burns, OL coach Doug Marrone, QB coach Ronald Curry, asst. OL coach Kevin Carberry, and offensive assistants DJ Williams and Bob Bicknell. Several of those coaches have already landed new gigs, including Carmichael rejoining Payton with the Broncos. Two of those coaches are sticking within the division, with Williams taking over as QBs coach for the Falcons and Carberry signing on to be the new OL coach with the Bucs.
Outside of Kubiak, none of the assistant coaching hires have yet to be officially announced by the team.
