Drew Brees will be headed back to the TV broadcast booth, at least for Christmas day.
The Saints QB legend has been tapped as an analyst for one of the streaming giant's two NFL games in the 2025 season, according to a report from The Athletic. It's unclear which matchup Brees will land, with the games being Cowboys-Commanders and Lions-Vikings.
Brees also worked with Netflix for their 2024 games but only appeared on the international broadcast.
It will be Brees' first return as a stateside broadcaster since he called a playoff game between the Raiders and Bengals in the 2022 season. His run with NBC was short-lived, with him calling Notre Dame games as well as select NFL games alongside Mike Tirico. One of those broadcasts was a Thanksgiving matchup between the Saints and Bills at the Caesars Superdome.
Brees has had multiple projects in the past several years, including the launch of several businesses and NOLA Picklefest, an annual pickleball competition at the Convention Center in New Orleans. Brees cited the schedule as an issue that conflicted with his desire to watch his children's game, but maintained that he desired a return to broadcasting at some point in the right situation.
"The thing that I wanted to do most that I felt like I could bring the most value in was broadcasting NFL games and it’s the thing I had the least opportunity to do. ... But man, I love the game," he said last year. "I would love to broadcast NFL games at some point again. I think I could be the best at it."
Perhaps a streaming deal could be that avenue, with Netflix just one of multiple platforms to dive into the NFL broadcasting ranks in recent years. The streamer had a pair of Christmas games last year in its streaming debut. NFL games have also been carried on Peacock, with YouTube diving into the ranks this year. Prime Video has carried Thursday Night Football for the past several seasons.
With that increased competition likely comes more demand for seasoned broadcasters, with Fox, CBS and NBC unlikely to loan out their top talent. CBS' Nate Burleson, who served as a Netflix game analyst last season, is expected to return in that role this year, according to the Athletic.
