LSU’s starting left guard Paul Mubuenga was listed as doubtful on the SEC Availability Report.
Mubuenga went down with an ankle sprain on the second series of the second half of the Ole Miss game. He has started every game at left guard this season, after starting five games as a redshirt freshman last season.
Redshirt freshman Coen Echols has been Mubuenga’s primary backup, but redshirt sophomore DJ Chester is also an option as he’s learned to play all five positions on the offensive line.
Another option is freshman Carius Curne. The coaching staff was encouraged with his play against Ole Miss as he filled in for an injured Weston Davis at left tackle. Curne also practiced at left guard during spring and fall practices, before being moved to tackle, to provide competition to Davis.
Davis is ready to play this Saturday against South Carolina, so if the Tigers want their five best offensive linemen on the field at once, Curne could make his first collegiate start against the Gamecocks.
South Carolina is also banged up on the offensive line. Starting right tackle Carson Henry has been downgraded to out. He has missed the last couple of games after suffering an arm injury in a 31-7 loss to Vanderbilt on September 13th.
Interior offensive lineman Nolan Hay is also listed as out with a knee injury suffered in the Missouri game on September 20th. Hay was making his first start when he went down with an injury.
South Carolina has also been without starting offensive lineman Markee Anderson. He’s missed the last three games since suffering an injury in week two and will not play against the Tigers.
The Gamecocks' injuries along the offensive line have resulted in a ton of pressure on quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who has been sacked 14 times in five games.
LSU might also be without its top receiver, Aaron Anderson. The former Edna Karr standout is listed as questionable. Coach Brian Kelly says Anderson has been dealing with multiple injuries, but it was an elbow injury that forced him to miss most of the second half against Ole Miss.
Leading rusher Caden Durham missed the Ole Miss game, but he’s listed as probable for this Saturday.
