Jimmy Graham didn't catch a pass in what might be the final game of his NFL career, but he did make sure to dunk on the Falcons one final time.
The veteran TE was one of several players who came out in support of quarterback Jameis Winston after the decision to override the coaches' call for a kneeldown and give Jamaal Williams a touchdown.
"Get off [Winston's] back," Graham posted. "This man is the best teammate I’ve ever had. Loves this city, this game and embodies everything you can ask for in a leader. Was a rare situation and we all take responsibility. Nobody thought it would get blown out of proportion."
The quote above is missing the best part, though: "Also, f*ck the Falcons."
Just a friendly reminder that Graham comes from a different era of Saints-Falcons rivalry. He also wasn't done, when someone suggested that the Falcons would remember the Saints' decision to run a play out of the victory formation the next time such a situation occurred, he replied with an image of a bent goalpost, courtesy of one of his post-TD dunks that are now against the rules.
It was a fun aside to cap off an odd season for Graham in his long-awaited return to New Orleans. He caught his first touchdown in a Week 3 loss to the Packers, but was then phased out and even inactive for several weeks before emerging as a red zone weapon late in the year.
Graham's final season stats were 6 catches for 39 yards and 4 touchdowns. Will that be his final go-around in the NFL at age 36? Saints head coach Dennis Allen couldn't say either way when asked this week, but another Graham social media post sure made it sound that way.
"It’s always been an honor to represent this city. I’m greatful (sic) for all the love over this long journey," Graham wrote.
Maybe that sailing trip around the world starts this offseason for Jimmy? We'll have to wait and see.
