Friday afternoon Saints TE Jimmy Graham spoke to the media and relayed that he was the healthiest that he had felt in years. Less than 24 hours later there were a lot more questions than answers in that regard.
Graham was taken into custody by police Friday evening after he was reported to be behaving erratically and walking in the street near a resort in Southern California. He was ultimately released to a local hospital where he was treated for what was believed to be a seizure.
The 36-year-old watched the game from the locker room at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, but his status going forward is a question left to be answered.
“Jimmy’s with us. He’s healthy," head coach Dennis Allen said after Sunday's game. "He’ll have some more testing to go on. He’s a little shook up, but overall he’s doing OK.”
Graham signed with the Saints earlier this offseason after spending the 2022 season not on a roster. Most of the Saints' starters did not dress for the Week 2 preseason showdown with the Chargers after participating in a pair of joint practices on Thursday and Friday in Costa Mesa. The team now returns to New Orleans and readies for a Week 3 clash with the Houston Texans, but without joint practices after the teams mutually agreed to cancel them.
It'll be a welcome return home for the team after a week that included the uncertainty of a tropical system hitting Southern California for the first time in 84 years, and also an earthquake that struck about 50 miles away from the stadium just minutes before the game started.
“There's been a lot of thought that was held this week, in terms of the productivity of what we were able to get accomplished in the joint practices and then being able to play the game," Allen said. "I'm ready to try to get back home and get ready to go back to the dome next week.”
