Sean Payton didn't end his Saints coaching career as part of a viral marketing campaign for the upcoming Netflix movie about his life, but there's no denying the the timing was effective.
And when "Home Team" drops on Friday, it'll feature Kevin James as the longtime Saints coach during the season he spent suspended and away from the NFL. But if you watch closely, you'll also see Payton himself -- as a janitor.
There will also be a wig involved, if the photos from the set during filming are to be believed.
The former head coach talked at length about his decision this week to retire in an interview with Dan Patrick, who also has a cameo in the film and pre-apologized for what he projected to be a not-so-friendly commentary, asking that the coach not take it personally.
"As a janitor, I’m not going to be offended about what you say about Kevin James playing Sean Payton,” the coach joked, later agreeing to ship Patrick the visor from his last game as head coach to be displayed in the show's "man-cave."
Payton says he's excited to watch the movie just like everyone else. He helped with the story and his small role, but hasn't had much involvement in the film itself, which is directed by Chris Titone.
"I’m excited like you are just to watch it, put it on and see what it looks like," Payton said. "It sounds like it’s going to be funny and along the lines of the Bad News Bears.”
