Sean Payton was in a rare position during the Saints' Week 15 domination of the Bucs, and it was one with full access to his phone.
Watching from home as he battles COVID for the second-time, he used that phone to send a simple but effective summary of his feelings after defensive coordinator Dennis Allen led the Saints to a 9-0 victory.
"YESSSSSSSSS!!" Payton tweeted, while adding the hashtag "TeamGrit."
With Allen in control, it was fitting that it was the Saints defense that shined the brightest in their latest bit of Florida domination. Pete Carmichael called the plays on offense, a group that avoided a turnover for the second straight week, and the defensive line battered and bruised Tom Brady all night.
Allen wouldn't share the specifics from conversations with Payton leading up to the game, but he said the coach imparted his plan and then allowed Allen to do the rest.
"I really appreciate everything that Sean Payton's meant to me in my coaching career, and for him to ask me to step in," Allen said after the game. "... I appreciate that he had the faith and the trust in me to lead this team."
